AI Governance & NetZero in Healthcare
Guiding healthcare professionals in balancing AI governance and Net Zero sustainability.
With over half of the UK public (54%) and three-quarters of NHS staff (76%) supporting AI in patient care - and even more in favour of AI for admin tasks - it's clear that technology is not just the future of healthcare, but a welcomed solution today.
A 2024 McKinsey report revealed that over 70% of healthcare organisations around the world are either implementing or exploring gen AI capabilities. Whereas a 2023 Gartner report indicates that only 46% of organisations have implemented on AI governance framework, either as a dedicated system or as an extension of existing governance structures. This indicates a growing relevance of AI in the Healthcare sector along with the requirement of incorporating ethical governance to build and maintain trust in the Healthcare sector.
To address these complexities and implications of AI Governance and NetZero, AI Tech UK hosted
a comprehensive webinar alongside the Health Innovation Network, highlighting the use of Smart Ethics as a key solution to help ensure sustainability and ethical standards in AI applications within the healthcare sector. We had the privilege of having experts on the panel with us such as Sherin Mathew - Founder & CEO, Pete Waddingham - National NetZero Lead of Health Innovation Network, Christopher McKee - MD of UK Better Medicine and Hatim Abdulhussein - CEO at Health Innovation Kent Surrey Sussex.
Our expert panel explored the energy demands of AI technologies and their impact on Sustainable Development Goals. Highlighting the EU AI Act, the penalties for non-compliance and the importance of proactive governance were discussed. Along with that, the panel emphasized the need for trust, independent validation, and continuous monitoring of AI tools, alongside integrating sustainability into AI development using ethical frameworks.
